To give the good, hardworking cops of the big screen their chance to shine, here’s a list of badass cop movies that will definitely keep you entertained.

1. L.A. Confidential (1997)

Probably the reason why I like Guy Pearce – he was so annoying with them big glasses, nerdy looks, and high moral standards that I had to respect the talent he put into the character. Featuring the grumpy, hard-looking Russell Crowe and witty Kevin Spacey, L.A. Confidential is all about corruption.

2. Fargo (1996)

In one of the Coen Brothers’ earlier dark comedies, a man hires two hitmen to kidnap his wife, which leads to an interesting police investigation, and a definite deadly ending. The Coen Brothers’ direction is so relaxed (just like in No Country for Old Men, which would be an awesome add to the list) and entertaining. This one is definitely something else!

3. Lethal Weapon (1987)

If you’re looking for a hard action cop duo, it has to be Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon. I watched this for the first time when I was a kid and I’ve always enjoyed it since then. I’d say this is the 80s’ Rush Hour.

4. Training Day (2009)

We go deep into the true police life with two Academy Award winners, Denzel Washington (he got one for his role in this movie) and his trainee Ethan Hawke. A one-day training with Detective Alonzo (played by Washington) is more than anybody could handle but Jake Hoyt (Hawke) proves to be a good student. And, of course, the King Kong scene…

5. End of Watch (2012)

I’m not a big fan of Jake Gyllenhaal but his performance in this one blew me away. End of Watch is a down-to-earth, documentary-styled police story of two partners just trying to get through the day but the city won’t let them. This realistic, breathtaking action film (from the writer of Training Day) has made it to my all-time favorites.
