The Egyptian cabinet, led by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb, submitted its resignation to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi Saturday morning, Al-Ahram reported.

Following last week’s arrest of Agriculture Minister Salah Helal on charges of corruption, Mehleb’s cabinet has been under scrutiny as other ministers might also be investigated on similar corruption charges.

Although President Sisi accepted the resignation, he ordered the cabinet to continue carrying out its duties until a new cabinet is formed.

In the meanwhile, President Sisi has asked Minister of Petroleum Sherif Ismail to act as prime minister and form a new cabinet within a week.
