The Egyptian football team Zamalek won the Egypt Cup final game against Al Ahly last night. The match took place on Monday, September 21 at the Petro Sport Stadium in Cairo.
The game ended in Zamalek’s favor with a final score of 2-0, both goals were scored in the first half of the match by Bassem Morsi.
Al Ahly was playing without two of its midfielders, captain Hossam Ghali and Walid Soliman, due to injuries.
Only a hundred people from both the clubs’ boards were selected to attend the game at the stadium. According to Ahram Online, this match ensured their imminent face-off in the upcoming Egypt Super Cup.
This is the team’s third consecutive cup win and their first win against Al Ahly in the Egypt Cup finals since 1959.
Zamalek also won the Egyptian Premier League (El Dawry) earlier this year on July 28. It was their first league win in 11 years. Both titles were acquired under the supervision of their Portuguese coach, Jesualdo Ferreira.
Zamalek fans were overjoyed after last night’s victory, honking their car horns and flying their team’s flag high and proud.
Zamalek and Al Ahly have been known to be football club rivals since their establishment in the early 20th century.
