As soon as we stepped foot into Fairmont Nile City’s newly renovated Bab el Nil, we immediately felt like we had stepped into a strangely modern adaptation of an old black and white Egyptian film.

At first glance, the indoor space seems familiar to the eye, with its vintage Egyptian poster-adorned walls, and overall golden arabesque atmosphere… once one steps into the outdoor area however, it is clear to see the venue’s spot-on renovations that add all the more of an authentic touch to the spectacular Middle Eastern restaurant.

The space, although the same as before, somehow seems a lot more refreshingly vast – perfectly designed to fit a large number of people, yet maintaining just enough space for each group of friends or family to feel like they have their own private little area.

From the mismatched colorful floor tiles and the giant green wall of leaves, to the soothing sound of Umm Kulthoum’s voice in the background … the overall interior provides guests with the perfect mix of homey and outdoorsy, cozy and ambient.

As in any restaurant, however, the spotlight truly shines on the cuisine. From the second our fragrant hummus, creamy labnah, and mouthwatering vine leaves arrived as our introduction to the ultimate oriental culinary journey that awaited us, we were instantly transfixed as our palettes enjoyed the burst of flavors.

Our team went all out, ordering home cooked favorites such as fattah and molokheya, as well as Bab el Nil’s wonderfully aromatic fresh-off-the-grill sish tawook. To top it all off, we thoroughly enjoyed stuffing our faces to a sparkling view of the Nile.

Had we stayed longer, we would have also caught a dazzling live performance of Soraya – the venue’s resident belly dancer who performs there daily. Great food, great view, and great entertainment… what could possibly be better?
