It was only fitting that we create a separate list especially for comic book/ superhero films coming out this year, because boy are there many. From the much anticipated Batman vs. Superman (will Ben Affleck live up to the name?), to everyone’s – well, mostly everyone’s – current favorite British actor (Cumberbatch) taking up the role of neurosurgeon turned superhero, Doctor Strange… we’re all in for quite a ride (especially all comic book lovers out there).

We’re all looking forward to this DC Comics antihero team, mostly because of the kick ass cast thus film has in store for us. The film’s premise revolves around a secret government agency that recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for pardoning them. In all honesty though… we just can’t wait for Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Jared Leto (The Joker)!

DC Comics is really bringing it this year with yet another highly anticipated film that people around the world just can’t wait to watch. In the film, Batman goes to Metropolis to keep Superman in check… meanwhile, Doomsday appears and the two superheroes must set aside their differences for the greater good. We’re still contemplating being #TeamSuperman or #TeamBatman.

Captain America: Civil War

Release Date: 6 May
Genre:
Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller

Anthony and Joe Russo

Marvel Comics joins in the fun of superhero opposition with this film in which Captain America and Tony Stark (Iron Man) of The Avengers go head-to-head while, at the same time, they attempt to protect the world from a new enemy. All we can say is… Marvel’s game’s still going strong.

Deadpool

Release Date: 12 Feb
Genre:
Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Directed by:
Tim Miller
Starring:
Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano

Reynolds has tried DC as the Green Lantern, but now he’s converted to Marvel as the former Special Forces operative turned – dark and twisted – superhero Deadpool. The film’s premise revolves around an experiment gone (kind of) wrong after Wad Wilson (Reynolds) tried to cure his cancer, and is left with accelerated healing powers, disfigured skin, and an unstable mind. Now, as Deadpool, he wants to hunt down the man who almost ruined his life.

Assassin’s Creed

aaaaaaaaaa

Release Date: 21 Dec
Genre:
Action, Adventure, History
Directed by:
Justin Kurzel
Starring:
Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons

Ok, so this might be cheating as this is neither a comic nor superhero… it’s based off of a video game – but it just had to be included. As I was watching my brother play this game, I remember commenting on how the storyline is amazing and that it should be turned into a film – and voila! The story basically revolves around Callum Lynch (Fassbender) exploring the memories of his ancestor Aguilar and gradually gaining the skills of a Master Assassin… he soon discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society.

Doctor Strange
